I bought that new Professor Layton game yesterday. I liked the Curious Village game well enough that I figured I'd give this one a try, and it's pretty good. So far It's got a lot more movie clips in it than the last game did. And I'm really liking the voice acting. Then again, I always was a sucker for a British accent.
Not even five minutes into the game my brain veered off the sidewalk and straight into the gutter. There's this lovely little tidbit you get when Layton and his sidekick Luke introduce themselves to an NPC:
NPC: Interesting. So if I understand correctly, you keep a child around as an "apprentice," do you?
Layton: Not at all, sir. In truth, he's--
Luke: Professor Layton's apprentice, like I said!
Layton: Mm.
NPC: Well, it's really none of my concern.

I now am the completely geeked-out owner of Dragonquest V and Suikoden Tierkreis. Obviously, I'm playing the Suikoden one right now.
At first I was kinda disappointed to learn that runes aren't included in this game. And apparantly none of the characters from the previous games will be showing up either. To be honest though, this game is going so smoothly that I keep forgetting those facts. This game is just plain fun. I'm not usually one to ogle over a battle system, but it's pretty smooth and you don't have to level-grind too much. The fact that the monsters drop items rather than money (ala FF12) helps to reinforce the trading post system as well. During the first hour I just ran around the Citro Plains and got a good stash of loot I could sell off at the trade post.
Of course I'm the girl who's far too entertained by little things like using my stylus on the screen to make the hero run in circles. He's a good sport though. Definitely a change from the past couple of main characters in the series who were always serious to a fault sometimes. It's hard to put his character into words, but if he ever met one of the other Suikoden heroes, I think it'd be kinda like Zidane meeting Squall in Dissidia. :3
Damn, now I really wanna see that happen.
...And what with the whole "infinity worlds" thing being opened up with this game's storyline, there's good opportunity for crossover fics; not just with the previous games, but other series as well. ♥
Well, at least I hope so. Please don't make me write it myself. It would blind small children. Please think of the children, won't you?
EDIT: There is one thing about the game I don't like though: I have never come across such a completely USELESS instruction manual for a game in my life! Are they depending on people buying the guide book in order to make up for it? Geez.

Odin Sphere Get!
Nov. 14th, 2008 05:47 pmBut on the bright side I managed to score a used copy of Odin Sphere! I've been hearing about this game for a while now and couldn't resist picking it up. The only problem is that it didn't have an instruction manual with it. How hard would it be to pick up on how to play this game without the manual? Is there someplace online I can find it?
I think I hurt myself doing this

( Cut for length. No, I'm not kidding. )
Found a new key lime pie recipe that touts itself as 'traditional', so I'm going to have my family play guinea pigs to see if it lives up to it's claim. :D
Other than that it's business as usual around here. Still psyched about nanowrimo, and I'm even getting back into my gaming groove again. I'm determined to finish Tales of the Abyss (even though I've been spoiled for the ending). Then after that I'm going to tackle those other games I haven't finished yet; like FFXII, Okage, Grandia 3, Crisis Core, etc etc. (Wow, do I have a limited attention span or what? I just realized I haven't even finished FF8!)
This and news about other games is making it really hard for me to choose which console to get; PS3, XBox 360, or Wii. Given my past experiences this most likely means I'll eventually end up getting them all. *cries for her poor, poor wallet* I think though that which one I get first depends on what games are available for it. .....And also at what point I'll be able to afford buying something like that. *hears news about XBox 360 coming down in price and cries a teeny bit less*
Hmmm, Christmas isn't that far away right? Maybe if I save up my Christmas money....
And now for some reason I'm craving Georg Prime/Freyjadour. It's sort of my guilty pairing that clubbed me over the head when I played the game (must be the eyepatch, that's gotta be it. I'm a sucker for sexy pirates). The weird thing is I can hardly find any fic or art for this pairing out there. I guess it must not be that popular. The japanese fanart sites I've managed to find seem to like Kyle/Freyjadour (a pairing that's sorta growing on me a little).
Well, if there isn't any fic or art out there for those two, maybe I'll resort to making some myself. Although that would require getting off my lazy butt and actually doing something. Art might be easier than fic though; the timelines in the game are pretty tight unless I make something AU or do something for after the game ended.... *wanders off to plot*
