okobi: bunnies do it better? (adoration)
You know what the best part of my birthday was? My adorable little nephew learned how to say my name for the first time.

^_________________________^

That kid has me wrapped around his finger like nothing else.

In other news! I got my orange belt! Didn't do as well as I did when I tested for my yellow belt, but I'll just have to make up for that when I go for my green belt.

I have a new favourite icon. I very much doubt I will ever stop loving it, even when it's place as my default icon is inevitably replaced with something newer and shinier.

Source for the pic is the webcomic "Least I Could Do", which I should probably not find as hilarious as I do.

In RL news, I actually did get my yellow belt. I was unbelievably relieved and happy all at the same time when my name was called that everything else sensei said afterward flew in one ear and right out the other without stopping at my brain for even so much as a pit stop. XD

So in the end I decided to do the belt grading for my yellow belt after all. I'll know tomorrow if I've passed or not. I also need to remember to give the fee to sensei tomorrow as well.

I'm pretty confident that I did well, or at least that I didn't do horribly, but the decision to participate was pretty last minute so I didn't have a lot of time to prepare myself.

And when I say last minute, I mean as in '3 minutes before class started' when sensei asked me if I was sure I didn't want to try because he thought I'd be able to do it.

And really, pathetic as it sounds, that's what helped me decide. I'm really, really bad at gauging my own abilities - although I like to think I've gotten better - and tend to look to other people's opinion's to help me figure things out. Because there's no way in hell I can be objective about decisions that directly affect me. Karate's actually helping out a lot with that; boosting my confidence and all that stuff. Plus I think a lot of my hesitance toward the belt grading lay in the fact I had no idea what went on. Now that I know, I'm actually looking forward to next time, whether I pass this one or not.

Actually, if I don't pass this grading I'll be pretty okay with it. Mainly because I know for a fact I didn't prepare at all for it because of my being wishy-washy about deciding. Next time (whether it's for my yellow or orange belt) I'll definitely be making a better effort to prepare.

...Wow, this turned out a lot more rambly than I thought it would.
okobi: exhausted (exhausted)
Wow, I didn't think missing a couple karate sessions while I was sick would make much of a difference, but I can't remember the last time I was this sore afterwards (my other karate journal entries could probably jog my whiny memory though). "Feel the burn" doesn't really describe it adequately, to be honest. ;_; At least this'll encourage me to not miss classes too much in the future.

Thank god for painkillers, that's all I can say! Man, my legs are gonna be like tree trunks by this time next year.

Wasn't too sure I was going to be up for karate this morning, considering how lousy I was feeling when I went to sleep last night. Luckily I felt loads better when I woke up today and managed to make it to class on time even though I'd slept in a bit. Next time, though, I'm wearing a jacket because we were locked outside for a bit while Sensei went to look for a custodian to let us in. The ground isn't frosty in the mornings yet, but summer is definitely over. *shivers*

I can tell my body is going to be screaming at me tomorrow, mostly because it's already starting to. None of the others from the beginners group were there this morning, so I got to follow along with the rest of the class and wound up learning three new kicks! :D

Sensei had told me that I was doing pretty well with what I had learned so far, so even though these kicks were a bit advanced for my level he figured I could handle it. It was really fun! It's hard to keep your balance when you're first learning a move, because you have to go slow to make sure you stay in control of your movements. A couple times I had to drop back to the ground in the middle of the move to keep myself from falling over. ^_^;; Sensei suggested starting out kicking low and then working my way to kicking higher as my muscles get more developed and can handle more. Which makes sense when I think about it. So no face kicking quite yet, but I'm getting there. ^_~

EDIT: Okay, yeah. Hours later here and I can definitely see why Sensei said to start with low kicks first. My stomach muscles are killing me from the tension I put on them trying to do those roundhouse kicks. No one make me laugh right now. ;_;

Okay, so karate class wasn't anywhere nearly as exhausting as it was last time. Probably due to a different sempai being in charge of the warm-up today. Someone needs to tell that other guy that a warm-up is not supposed to be the most exhausting part of a workout. At least I should be able to move around tomorrow. Which means I can actually get stuff done!

Found a new key lime pie recipe that touts itself as 'traditional', so I'm going to have my family play guinea pigs to see if it lives up to it's claim. :D

Other than that it's business as usual around here. Still psyched about nanowrimo, and I'm even getting back into my gaming groove again. I'm determined to finish Tales of the Abyss (even though I've been spoiled for the ending). Then after that I'm going to tackle those other games I haven't finished yet; like FFXII, Okage, Grandia 3, Crisis Core, etc etc. (Wow, do I have a limited attention span or what? I just realized I haven't even finished FF8!)

Okay, so for the past bit I've been getting increasingly frustrated trying to find videogame ringtones for my cellphone that don't sound like they came from an ice cream truck. Never mind the part where a lot of the time I can't find the song I want at all (obscure game titles, I'm looking at you). Recently as I was fruitlessly searching, I discovered via a few tutorials that you can actually make your own ringtones (as long as you've got a way of transferring data from your computer to your phone). Which is right up my alley, being so nitpicky about sound quality and all. Now I can officially geek out every time my phone rings to that guitar theme in Suikoden that I've always loved!

I'd say this is a pretty good tactic for distracting myself from nanowrimo jitters. I want to get started on writing already! And at the same time I can't believe it's going to be underway next week. :DDDDD

In other news: yeah, that 'light lifting' I was thinking of doing yesterday to organize my place? Completely didn't happen; I was too busy moaning in pain and agony from everything aching so much. I was surprised to find that I couldn't lift my arms above my shoulders or carry anything without my sides feeling that they were on fire. Usually it's my legs that feel the effects of karate class, and I'm still trying to remember what the heck I could've done to make my body so sore. Things are feeling a whole lot better today, but I think I'll put off any furniture moving until after the next class on the off chance I might pull something that's still recovering.

Karate class went well today. Except for the part where I was at the point of passing out from just doing the warm-up. I'm starting to seriously think I need to pick up walking or even jogging if warm-ups are going to be like this from now on. D:

Learned a whole bunch of new stuff again today, but now my body feels like one massive bruise because of all the muscles I'm not used to using. I am seriously tempted to down some painkillers before sleeping tonight (which I hate doing because blargh medicine) because otherwise I don't think I'd be able to relax enough to fall asleep feeling like this. /whinebitchmoan

But other than that! Today was wonderful; taught mom how to make that apple pie I did for Thanksgiving dinner (she really loved what I did and wanted to know the 'secret'). And apparantly my aunt (who was visiting) had never seen the Transformers movie, so we made an evening of it. My brothers and their significant others popped in as well and stayed to watch a bit of the movie too. I love it when the day turns into an unexpected get-together. Really helps me recharge my batteries and restore my faith in the world. :D

One thing I resolve to do once I'm no longer blue and black all over is to finish getting my place organized from moving all the furniture. I'm sick and tired of seeing everything scattered all over the living room like this. Maybe if my body's recovered enough tomorrow I can do a bit. I mean, it'd be just light lifting, right?
