I recently tried the Italian Wedding soup at East Side Mario's, and now I'm on the hunt for a comparable recipe. I'd heard that Campbell's Soup makes a decent one, but I tried that out tonight and it tastes so bland compared to Mario's! XP
I can't put my finger on it, but it felt like something was missing. Maybe it was something in the meatballs. I know the restaurant ones had a lot more flavour. The broth had more flavour too, come to think of it. Hmm...
Looks like I'm going to be experimenting for the next bit until I find something I'm happy with. Going to that restaurant all the time just so I can have that soup would really add up after awhile.
...I wonder if they'd give me the recipe if I begged nicely enough?

Curry Tortillas!
May. 14th, 2009 08:50 pmQuick note so I don't forget:
Japanese curry + soft taco shells = oh so good.
onion + potato + carrot + beef + garlic + glico curry mix + marjoram + oregano + black pepper + more garlic = so very, very yummy.
Just tried this out for the first time. Figured I'd follow the directions on the back of the box but the sauce ended up kinda 'meh' to me, so I added in the extra spices and ended up loving it (of course, I'm a big fan of strong flavoured stuff, so results may vary. As in, I like lots of garlic). Also found I like the curry better rolled up in a soft taco or tortilla shell rather than over rice. I'll have to cook up some noodles tomorrow and try that with the leftovers. Heard about eating bread with curry, so I'll have to try that too. But tortillas are a definite 'yes' in my book. :9
Damn, why don't I have any Addicted to Curry icons yet?

I haven't tried experimenting too much with this recipe, but I imagine that if you didn't have plums you could easily substitute it with another type of fruit. I wonder how this would taste with blackberries or cherries?

Gah! Still trying to work my way through that fight scene, although I'm pretty sure I've figured out how it's going to play out. Now I just need to get the words out of my head and into the word document. Easy, sure.
This weekend has completely kicked my ass; I had to miss karate class yesterday because I felt so horrible when my alarm went off. Whenever I wasn't lying in bed feeling lousy and fighting off whatever virus I've caught, I've been reviewing canon for my NaNo fanfic. I had hoped to be past the fight scene and further into the story by now, but that internal editor of mine has been fighting back. I think I need to duct tape its mouth shut. *grumblegrumblegripe*
In other news, found a neat recipe for chocolate caramel cookies that I tried out last night (brief note: eating fresh cookies at almost midnight while not feeling the greatest may seem like a good idea at first, but you end up feeling even more ill a short while later). They turned out pretty good, but next time I think I'm going to cut the pieces of caramel just a little smaller for my own preference.

The new and improved chocolate cheesecake
Nov. 3rd, 2008 02:37 pmI played around a bit more with that chocolate cheesecake recipe by doubling the chocolate, and it does taste a lot better. Here's the adapted recipe:

Nanowrimo progress: 2718 words down, 2283 left to go for today. Why did I procrastinate yesterday? And May still hasn't got her butt out the door. Although at least she seems to be putting her coat on (metaphorically speaking). *sighs*
EDIT: Screw this. I'm halfway through catching up to where I need to be in terms of wordcount and my brain is completely fried. I'm taking a break to play some ToTA and coming back to this later.
I love videogame therapy. ♥
EDITEDIT: Whoops! Just realized I messed up on a measurement for the cheesecake crust and put 1/2 cup of sugar when it was supposed to be 2 tbsp. Oh well, if you like a really sweet crust you can leave it that way, I guess.

Oct. 27th, 2008 05:35 pmSo the key lime pie turned out pretty good, and everyone seemed to like it. It had a really strong lime flavour to it that was sweetened a bit by the milk so that it wasn't piercingly sour. My family likes strong flavoured things as much as I do. ^_^
The only thing I need to work on is figuring out a way to make it less goopy (it got pretty runny once it was cut into slices). I was thinking cornstarch, but mom said that cornstarch has to be added to hot mixtures in order to work or it won't thicken. Then Emmy suggested making a cornstarch roux and adding it to the mix that way, which I think I might try. Now I just need to ask her how to make a roux when I see her later this week. ^^;;
Anyway! Here is the recipe as I originally made it. I'll post the revised version once I've tried it out.

...I think I need to stop this habit of checking out food sites late at night. Now not only am I craving a midnight snack, I just gave myself a backlog of new desserts I'm literally drooling to try out. My mother loves when I try new recipes because it means she gets to play guinea pig.
I have a serious weakness for cheesecake and have been looking for a decent and easy recipe for chocolate cheesecake for years. I think I may have found one, but it's going to have to wait until after I've tried making that key lime pie; which means next week. I try to hold myself back to just one dessert experiment a week so that I don't go broke from buying too much baking stuff and also so I don't break my bathroom scale when I hop on it.
Did I ever post that apple pie recipe? Huh, could've sworn I did. Well, here it is then:

Homemade caramel sauce + sliced apples = mmmMMMMMMmmmm! :9
Caramel Sauce
14 oz. of those little wrapped caramels
1/2 cup butter or margarine
14 oz. can of sweetened condensed milk
Melt together the caramels (unwrapped first, of course) and the butter in a saucepan over low heat. Remove from the heat and stir in the sweetened condensed milk.
It's goopy, but oh so yummy. This is my comfort food when I'm feeling blah. And I'm getting NaNoJitters already, so having leftover caramel sauce from my last baking spree was a godsend.
This stuff gets pretty hard when you refrigerate it, but all you gotta do is set it out on the counter for a little bit and it'll go all goopy again. :3
Seriously, this stuff is evilly good.

Chicken Caesar Pasta
Sep. 21st, 2008 04:14 am...Hours later, I finally caved in and got off my butt for a quick snack, but reading all those recipes and food articles has still got me craving something to munch on. So instead I've been trying to come up with dinner ideas for the week. I'm gonna have to go grocery shopping soon; lately I've been craving this old favourite and I don't have all the ingredients for it:
I've got to be in a certain frame of mind to read food articles (i.e: hungry but too lazy to go to the kitchen for a snack). That said, I thought this excerpt in an "Ask the Cook" column I found to be completely hilarious:
...And now I'm craving cinnamon buns.
